After the popular anime series had ended months before, companies started to bang on the theater movie feature released in summer of 2005 to gain more monetary profits from a wonderful anime series known as "Full Metal Alchemist or 鋼の錬金術師". However this set of beautifully created bust figurines are more probably still based from the anime series when Alphonse's soul is still within that hefty armor. |

Edward ElricTo kick off this wonderful set is one close up on our main hero, Edward Elric also known "Full Metal Alchemist" in the military, much due to the auto-mail right arm of his which is the main feature in this vignette. A nicely done auto-mail arm with details down to every bolts and nuts as well as the mechanical veins around the armpit. The face and the hair is nicely sculpted as well and the symbol at the rear is exquisitely done. However the red cape we see surrounding Edward is a loose piece which cannot be firmly pegged together and the symbol too has problem pegging securely on the back.

Edward & AlphonseYes, this piece brings me back to the time I tried in vain to construct the Kakashi piece in "Naruto Real Collection Part 1". The bad thing is that there was not instruction to show the construction of the base which shows the effect of alchemy surrounding the Elric brothers. You just have to figure out the shape and distance of the pegs in various piece to match that on the base. The good thing is that once the parts are fixed, they are pretty firm. Not taking any chances, I glued my final result with string adhesives so that I won't need to go through all the troubles again. The pose of the brothers are really cool and the base is actually quite visually stunning. However the base on which the characters were connected is not linked to the base of alchemy lights, so have to take care when shifting this piece.

Winry RockbellI am actually sucker for Winry Rockbell throughout the series and really find her to be very compatible to Edward, but the romance deemed not to be blossomed. Here we see the genius auto-mail engineer is seen having a cozy embrace with her pet dog which makes many fanboys' hearts flustering, secretly hope they could be the dog instead. This tasteful piece is first highlighted by a beautiful Winry and the hug she gave her dog looks so warm. The dog itself resembles closely to the anime form. I really like the design of the books lying around to give the piece a stable base and the details on the manual are simply intricate.

Alex & KingAn interesting vignette with 2 prominent supporting characters from the series. The narcissistic Major Alex Armstrong in a usual topless pose while behind him the one he served fervently, King Bradley (who is disclosed to be the homunculus known as Pride in the anime series). Major Armstrong looks good from the face which for once is a bit more serious and thus dashing to the well sculpted and painted physique to the metallic knuckle which he uses to execute his alchemy. Bradley's bust looks weird to be attached to the cliff but the face is still well done. I done really make much sense with the base with the stone cliff at one end and a explosion at the other end.

Riza & RoyThe people the Elric brothers banked on in the military are Col. Roy Mustang and by his side, his close sidekick, confidante and eventually lover, Lt. Riza Hawkeye. This pair perhaps has the poorest facial sculpt in the set and the pose looks a bit stiff. The base like the previous piece also does not make much sense. However small accessories like the gun, uniforms and Mustang's glove are quite detailed though.

EnvyThe first of the 2 piece depicting the Homunculus is one with Envy and the red dragon which is perhaps the only reference from the movie. A nice piece is helped by perhaps the best looking Envy figurine I have in my collections; and for the very first time look masculine. The dragon is also brilliantly done though the location of the wings seem too up on it's neck. The base of dark smog cloud looks like black pebbles at times.

Gluttony & LustThe final piece features the voluptuous Lust and her usual sidekick, Gluttony. Both are being made to close perfection though lust looks a bit scary like a benevolent spirit while Gluttony looks perfect. The Homunculus symbol is well represented on their body which is a nice touch. The base is homogeneous to that from the Envy piece thus allow you to form a full vignette as seen above.
